Truly wireless earbuds are generally pretty pricey. However the Taotronics Wireless earbuds are ultra affordable at less than $30. The biggest issue with good earbuds is usually price. You can usually expect to spend between $100 and $300 on really good earbuds.  Apple Airpods start at $170, and some sets go for more. If you temper expectations, TaoTronics offers wireless earbuds that perform far better than its price suggests possible.

Usually when using wireless earbuds only one earbud connects to Bluetooth, and the other simply connects to the first earbud. That usually means you can listen with only the left ear (for instance), but not only the right. The Taotronics Wireless Earbuds set of earbuds though work in single ear mode for either side. 

Taotronics Wireless Earbuds Power

The 3350mAh battery in the case means you’ll be able to recharge the earbuds a whopping 40 times before you need to plug the case back in.  Recharge time is pretty quick; you’ll get to 40 percent in 15 minutes and a full charge in an hour. 

TaoTronics also contains a bonus feature into the charging case as well. On the side, you’ll find a full-sized USB-A port. With the proper power cord you can use the case as a portable battery pack and recharge your phone. Pretty handy stuff.

The product does have a few flaws which you would expect of a product costing less than $30. The first is the initial set up.  I found an easier way to set up the earbuds than the instructions had. The best thing to do is take one earbud out of the case, pair it, put it back in the case (which turns it off), then take the second earbud out of the case and pair it. From them on, you can either use just the left or right bud, or both. When you put in the second earbud, you will have to wait a moment while the earbuds connect. .

Another problem involves opening the case which involves pressing a small button to unlock the lid. The button is somewhat sticky, which means the case doesn’t want to stay closed unless you fiddle with it.

The remaining charge indicator lights on the case are also different than most other cases. Most wireless earbuds have 4 LED lights, each representing 25% of a charge. This case has three. 

The flaws might be a bigger deal if you spent a great deal of money but at the price point are easily overlooked. Plus some of the issues are easy to overcome, you just have to get used to them.

With wireless earbuds, one of the easiest things to get wrong is the pairing and connectivity. So many models fail in these regards, but somehow TaoTronics has managed to avoid most of these pitfalls. Upon pairing them to your phone for the first time, just put both earbuds in your ears, tap on them from the list of Bluetooth devices on your phone, and voila they’ll connect. From that point on, they’ll connect when you put them in your ears and disconnect when they’re placed back in the case.

You can control your tunes and podcasts by using a variety of taps on the side of either earbud, ranging from skipping tracks, adjusting the volume and playing or pausing a song. Having access to all of these controls is nice and something you won’t even find on the $170 AirPods, but if you’re not precise with each tap, it’s easy to not have anything be registered or to accidentally skip a song when you just meant to pause it. But again for less than $30 it’s a minor problem being so sensitive.

The fit is comfortable and has good sound isolation. The Bluetooth connection is decent with range up to 50 feet and walls, doors, and other objects do seem to interrupt the signal at longer distances.

It is one of The Brooklyn Nomad’s more popular products and with good reason. We think the Akaso Brave 4 is also a great little camera to take with you on your outdoor fitness adventures.

Akaso Brave 4 Design Features

If you are familiar with action cameras then the AKASO Brave 4 will look pretty familiar to you. Almost all action cameras have a similar design. You know with their little plastic rectangular shape. It is a very simple design that just works well with action cameras. It’s easy to hold onto and is small and easy to operate. That said, the AKASO Brave 4 has added some design changes to spice up the normal design. They have added a small LCD screen to the top left corner of the front. This is a feature on more expensive cameras but usually it’s at the bottom corner but it works.

The overall button design layout is still standard. About the only thing different is that the on/off switch is now underneath the camera screen. The top of the camera still has a shutter button and two navigation buttons on the side. The main 2 IPS screen is at the back as in most cameras. There are also 3 ports on the right side: Micro SD, Micro HDMI and Micro USB.

Akaso Brave 4 Price vs GoPro’s

The AKASO Brave 4 is simply put a budget competitor of the iconic GoPro which are priced in the $300-$400+ range. The Akaso Brave 4 comes in at a much more affordable $79.99 on Amazon at the time of this post.

What that means in English is that the Akaso Brave 4 action camera records videos at a 1080p resolution and then the internal software scales them until they fit the desired size. You’ll basically get a 4K resolution video but it won’t be nearly as good a quality as a native version but it is at a fraction of the cost of what a real 4K camera would cost.

The AKASO Brave 4 is an action camera that really excels at underwater photography and has a number of included accessories to help with that. If you are into diving or snorkleing you will love the underwater pics.

BATTERY LIFE

One important feature in any action camera is the battery life. The AKASO Brave 4 has done a great job at extending battery life.  They use an 1050 mAh Li-On battery and it lasts for around 90 minutes. That’s when you record videos at 1080p. What I really like is that the Akaso Brave 4 action camera comes with 2 batteries instead of just one. While you are using one battery you can easily be charging another for non-stop action.

One of the first things that people wonder about and often get wrong is how to pronounce Sous Vide. When you say the word out loud, many people say it as “soo-vee”. But the correct Sous Vide Pronounciation is “soo-veeD”, with a hard “D” sound at the end.

What is Sous Vide Cooking?

Sous Vide Misconceptions

The first misconception is that sous vide does not mean boiling food in a bag. Common boil in a bag foods, like ready made Indian Dishes and packaged rice involve placing the food in boiling water to heat it. With sous vide cooking, however, the point is to cook food gently, well below the boiling point and often very slowly. It involves heating water precisely to a temperature that matches the food’s ideal internal temperature, never any hotter or cooler, and almost certainly never to boiling! The idea that sous vide means boiling food in a bag is a persistent misconception and source of confusion.

In this review of the Akaso Brave 4 which was first posted on our sister site The Brooklyn Nomad we are going to explore the very affordable Akaso Brave 4 camera and discuss its features which play an important rule in every kind of photography. It is one of The Brooklyn Nomad’s more popular products and with good reason. We think the Akaso Brave 4 is also a great little camera to take with you on your outdoor fitness adventures.

Akaso Brave 4 Design Features

If you are familiar with action cameras then the AKASO Brave 4 will look pretty familiar to you. Almost all action cameras have a similar design. You know with their little plastic rectangular shape. It is a very simple design that just works well with action cameras. It’s easy to hold onto and is small and easy to operate. That said, the AKASO Brave 4 has added some design changes to spice up the normal design. They have added a small LCD screen to the top left corner of the front. This is a feature on more expensive cameras but usually it’s at the bottom corner but it works.

The overall button design layout is still standard. About the only thing different is that the on/off switch is now underneath the camera screen. The top of the camera still has a shutter button and two navigation buttons on the side. The main 2 IPS screen is at the back as in most cameras. There are also 3 ports on the right side: Micro SD, Micro HDMI and Micro USB.

Akaso Brave 4 Price vs GoPro’s

The AKASO Brave 4 is simply put a budget competitor of the iconic GoPro which are priced in the $300-$400+ range. The Akaso Brave 4 comes in at a much more affordable $79.99 on Amazon at the time of this post.

We all know that price plays an important role when choosing a action camera. When you read about the festures below you will wonder why anyone pays so much more for a GoPro.

Is the GoPro name really worth spending $200 or more for? Assuming you’re a price-conscious shopper, you’ll want to know if this is really the best action camera under $100 and just as good as a GoPro?

GoPro VS Akaso Brave 4 

The bottom line is that GoPro is a well respected brand which provides excellent cameras with a full compliment of accessories but their problem is that they are ultra expensive. The Akaso Brave 4 has many great features and the price difference simply doesn’t justify spending more for a GoPro.

Akaso Brave 4 Performance

The AKASO Brave 4 has an Allwinner V3 chipset. It also has a Sony CMOS 20MP sensor. The standard output is 1080p at 60 frames per second. Which means that the 4K and 2K video resolutions are clearly interpolated. What that means in English is that the Akaso Brave 4 action camera records videos at a 1080p resolution and then the internal software scales them until they fit the desired size. You’ll basically get a 4K resolution video but it won’t be nearly as good a quality as a native version but it is at a fraction of the cost of what a real 4K camera would cost.

The AKASO Brave 4 is an action camera that really excels at underwater photography and has a number of included accessories to help with that. If you are into diving or snorkleing you will love the underwater pics.

BATTERY LIFE

One important feature in any action camera is the battery life. The AKASO Brave 4 has done a great job at extending battery life.  They use an 1050 mAh Li-On battery and it lasts for around 90 minutes. That’s when you record videos at 1080p. What I really like is that the Akaso Brave 4 action camera comes with 2 batteries instead of just one. While you are using one battery you can easily be charging another for non-stop action.

While I could argue if a plant based hamburger pattie is healthier than a meat one for those wasnting to lead a veggie life style the Impossible Whopper could be just what you are looking for and will make Vege burgers more mainstream for sure.

Prior to the Impossible Whopper meat substitutes looked and tasted like salted cardboard for the most part.  Gowever I have to admit the Black Bean ones from Costco were palatable if you had a lot of great fixings to go on them, and while they never induced nausea, I always have thought that fake meat isn’t really much better for you than than red meat anyway. So I looked into the health implications of today’s veggie burger stars: the Impossible Burger and its plant-based peers.

The Impossible Whopper® is just like the classic Whopper® hamburger, but made with an Impossible patty made from plants. What’s in the patty? Mostly soy protein, potato protein, coconut oil, sunflower oil, and heme.

Is the Impossible Whopper Healthy?

Supporting my thoughts Lisa Drayer, a health journalist and nutritionist, concluded on CNN recently that if you are choosing to eat these burgers solely for their health value, you may want to reconsider. Strayer contends that while the meat-like burger substitutes in the Impossible and Beyond burgers are better than beef for the environment, they are not likely all that great for your body.

For one thing, the salt content of fake meat is really extremely high. The fake meat burgers rank higher in sodium than the beef or turkey burgers, with the Impossible Burger containing 370 mg’s of sodium and the Beyond Burger containing 390 mg’s, Drayer said.  A typical beef patty contains only about 70 mgs’s of sodium, depending on the brand, and a turkey burger has about 100 mg’s again depending on the brand.

The American Heart Association suggests that adults have no more than 1,500 mg of sodium in a day, so both of these burgers would account for a large portion of your daily sodium intake. If you add a single slice of Chao vegan cheese (available online from Whole Foods), my personal fave, at 180 mg, and an Udis Gluten Free bun at 350mg, youre up to 920 mg of sodium, almost two-thirds of your recommended daily intake in one sandwich. Hold the fries and condiments and skip the Impossible Whopper Menu….

The protein content of both Impossible Whopper and Beyond are similar to meat burgers, so thats good. However a protein shake in the morning after your workout is still recommended, But you know how the Impossible burgers look bloody or bleed while being cooked? It has been reported that that the Impossible Whopper uses genetically modified soy protein, and, genetically modified soy leghemoglobin also known as heme which gives the burger its meaty flavor and red, blood-like drippings.

What is wrong with heme? Besides the multisyllabic chemical ingredients? Well, it was not approved for human consumption by the FDA until last summer, and it is still not approved to be used as a color additive and sold in grocery stores. So basically, were just beginning to see what these ingredients can do to our bodies versus knowing the dangers of them, like we do with red meat.

Of course not all fake meats are created equally, though, and while the Impossible Whopper has some questionable additives, Jessica Blanchard, a New Orleans-based dietician and holistic nutritionist, feels that the Beyond Burger might be a decently healthy choice. While her assertion is not yet proven, she points out the fact that there aren’t as many scary ingredients, on the packaging, which feels somewhat reassuring.

Blanchard says, that if you want to enjoy any vegan-based burger every now and then, the healthiest way would be to cut it in half, eat it with sprouted-grain bread, and heap on lots of veggies. My husband and I share a Beyond Burger every week or two. The Impossible Whopper will now make these types of burgers easily available for millions of people

But, Do not kid yourself. Fake protein meat like the Impossible Whopper is  junk food, too. That is kind of the point. But no animals were harmed making them and they are better for the environment, and as Blanchard says, While these fake burgers aren’t the healthiest choice, they are better than most processed foods.

Burger King has become the largest restaurant chain to embrace plant-based meats. Others will follow suit.

The Impossible Whopper Background

In 2009 a Stanford biochemistry professor named Patrick Brown decided to devote his sabbatical to eliminating intensive animal farming, which he determined at the time to be the world’s largest environmental problem. With other academics, Brown co-organized a conference in 2010 in Washington, D.C., to raise awareness to the problem. However, the National Research Council workshop “The Role of Animal Agriculture in a Sustainable 21st Century Global Food System” had minimal impact, and so  Brown decided soon after that the best way to reduce animal agriculture was to offer a competing product on the free market.

Founded in 2011, and headquartered in Northern California, the company mission is to give people the taste and nutritional benefits of meat without the negative health and environmental impacts associated with livestock products. 

The company’s signature product, the Impossible Burger, was launched in July 2016, after years of research and development. The company also makes a plant-based sausage product that started being tested on pizzas and sold by Little Caesars restaurants in May 2019

Brown started Impossible Foods in 2011.^[6] In July 2016, the company launched its first meat analogue product, the Impossible Burger, which is made from material derived from plants.^[7] The company says that making it uses 95% less land and 74% less water, and it emits about 87% less greenhouse gas than making a ground beef burger patty from cows.^[8] The plant-based burger has more protein, less total fat, no cholesterol, and fewer calories than a similar-sized hamburger patty made with beef.^[9] It contains more sodium and more saturated fats than an unseasoned beef patty.^[10] The Impossible Burger received Kosher certification in May 2018^[11] and Halal certification in December 2018
